A tragic incident unfolded on I-77 South in Iredell County last Friday evening when a driver, allegedly impaired, lost control of his vehicle, leading to a fatal crash. QC News reported that at around 8:20 p.m., the driver, Floyd Dale Davis II, veered off the road and his 2002 Chevrolet S-10 truck struck a tree on the passenger side.
The collision, occurring near mile marker 39, resulted in the death of passenger Timmy Hillard Hartsoe Jr., a 43-year-old from Conover, while the driver survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Driving while impaired and at high speeds are considered to be contributing factors to the crash, as suggested by an initial investigation shared by Iredell Free News. The area was closed for approximately two hours as authorities conducted on-scene investigation.
Following the crash, both Davis and Hartsoe were transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, Hartsoe did not survive his injuries. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed the tragic outcome, as noted by WSOCTV. "Investigators believe speed and impairment are contributing factors in the crash and say charges are pending," the state highway patrol reported.
Authorities are currently consulting with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office to determine the appropriate charges. No official statement has been made yet on whether Davis will be charged, but the investigation continues, drawing on the narratives obtained by Iredell Free News.
