In a heartwarming display of community engagement, the Coon Rapids Police Department showcased their dedication to service beyond enforcement. Officers were called to the scene not for a crime, but to answer a call of need from two local brothers whose only mode of summer transport, their tricycles, had met an unfortunate fate.
Following a visit to a local bike shop on May 14th, an autistic young man, non-verbal, was in need of assistance. With hopeful intent, he had brought in a tricycle to get repaired, only to find it was irreparable, unsafe to ride. This predicament was shared on social media by Coon Rapids Police Department—it became apparent the tricycle wasn't just his, but his brother's, the primary way the boys get around during the summer. The young man's tricycle had been previously destroyed when it was accidentally run over.
But the story didn't end there. The officers, moved by the boys' situation, coordinated with Toys 4 Joy, who stepped in with a donation. They provided not one, but two brand-new tricycles complete with safety gear. The smiles on the boys' faces, as shown in a photo accompanying the Facebook post, were a testament to the positive impact of the officers' kind gesture.
On June 19th, officers presented the new tricycles to the brothers. "Wanting to help, officers partnered with Toys 4 Joy, who generously provided two brand-new tricycles and safety gear for the brothers," stated the Coon Rapids Police Department's social media post. The delivery of these gifts not only brought joy to those directly involved but also set a standard for community policing efforts, offering a genuine outreach that extends well beyond the confines of traditional law enforcement responsibilities.
