A high-speed pursuit by Warren police earlier today led to a single-vehicle crash, critically injuring one passenger, while the driver and two other passengers were arrested. According to The Detroit News, the incident started when officers attempted to stop a Ford Fusion around 1 a.m. near Eight Mile and MacArthur for speeding. The driver, showing signs of intoxication, briefly halted before fleeing the scene.
The chase escalated despite the deployment of tire-deflation devices at Eight Mile and Schoenherr, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. The pursuit ended when the driver lost control and crashed in an alley near Seven Mile and Boulder in Detroit. A male passenger, attempting to escape the vehicle before it came to a rest, suffered critical injuries and was subsequently hospitalized.
Following the crash, the driver and a female passenger tried to evade police on foot but were quickly apprehended. ClickOnDetroit states authorities found suspected narcotics inside the car. The Warren Police Department's Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit took over the scene, as "No other vehicles, motorists, or Warren police patrol cars were damaged during the incident," Lt. John Gajewski assured in a statement obtained by ClickOnDetroit. The ongoing investigation will culminate with the facts presented to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, which will review and decide on possible charges against the occupants of the Ford.
