The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter is rolling out the red carpet for its 9th Annual Adoptapalooza, featuring a weekend of discounted adoptions and face-to-face meetings with foster dogs. In an effort to find forever homes for these canine companions, the shelter is slashing its adoption fees to a mere $20 for dogs four months and older from today, June 20, through Sunday, June 22.
Prospective pet parents can engage with dogs in foster care tomorrow, June 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Foster families will be available to share insights on the dogs' behavior in a home setting. According to a statement on the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter's official website, attendees are advised to use the east entrance of the bridge for event access.
The reduced adoption fee is a significant dip from the regular $95 and includes spay/neuter procedures, a heartworm test, vaccines, a 2025 dog license, a microchip, and a rabies tag. "We are looking forward to introducing some of our amazing dogs to those who want to grow their family by adding a pet. This is a great opportunity for the community to come out, meet us, meet our dogs, and see how a shelter dog can enrich their life,” Jen Huettich, Animal Shelter Manager of External Affairs, told the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter's news page.
With a near-capacity situation and the expected post-July Fourth increase in the dog population, the shelter is also on the lookout for temporary foster homes. Interested volunteers are encouraged to reach out via email at [email protected] for further details. The shelter's doors are open to visitors from Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., to view available pets and participate in Adoptapalooza.
