Bay Area dwellers dealing with old electronics or scrap metals have an upcoming opportunity to declutter responsibly. The County of Maui is hosting a metals and electronics recycling event on June 20 and 21, at the Hāna Recycling Center, which is situated conveniently across from the Hāna Landfill on Waikoloa Road. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day, allowing East Maui residents to drop off their appliances, auto batteries, tires, propane tanks, scrap metals, and various electronics.

Before you start clearing out your old stuff, make sure you know what's allowed. The County of Maui says residents can drop off e-waste like computers, TVs, printers, and monitors. Large appliances like washers, dryers, refrigerators, and dishwashers are also accepted. But remember — commercial drop-offs aren’t allowed,

There's also support on hand for those who might struggle to unload heavy items. Staff will be available to help remove items from your vehicles, as per the County of Maui.

For more details on what you can drop off, contact the right departments. The County of Maui Abandoned Vehicles office can help with general questions at (808) 270-6102. If you have large metal items, call Hammerhead Metals at (808) 280-8844. For old electronics, E-Cycling Maui is available at (808) 280-6460. And if you see an abandoned vehicle, report it to the Maui Police Department’s nonemergency line at (808) 244-6400, option 0, as detailed by the County of Maui.
