Voters in DeKalb County are in for a slight change come election day on Tuesday. Due to ongoing school construction, DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) has announced two temporary polling location switches affecting roughly 7,000 citizens. In a bid to ensure that the voting process runs smoothly during these disruptions, the DeKalb Board of Registration and Elections has stepped in to make sure everyone knows where to cast their ballots.
The changes were greenlighted at a June 9 Special Called Meeting of the DeKalb Board of Registration and Elections, who unanimously approved the emergency relocations. For voters historically casting their votes at Henderson Mill Elementary School, it's time to temporarily shift to Warren Technical School located at 3075 Alton Road, Atlanta, GA 30341. This adjustment combines Henderson Mill (HC) and Midvale Road (MW) precincts under a new, albeit temporary, roof. Meanwhile, Toney Elementary School voters from the Toney Elem (TC) precinct will to now have head over to Kelley Lake Elementary School at 2590 Kelly Lake Road, Decatur, GA 30032, according to DeKalb County's official announcement.
These careful orchestrations by the DeKalb VRE aim to mitigate any confusion that might have arisen from the construction work. While change can often be a source of stress for voters, the clarity provided by these updates is intended to keep the voting process accessible and straightforward. The VRE's proactive communication strategy appears to include direct notifications to the affected voters, ensuring that no one is left unaware of these temporary changes.
Navigating a special election for the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) with such measures in place, may prove to slightly disrupt some voting routines. All involved parties are counting on the contingency plans to deliver a smooth voting experience.
