DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Cochran-Johnson recently delivered her first Employee State of the County address, marking a historic event for the county. The address, themed “Reimagining DeKalb,” was presented to over a thousand county employees and shared updates on current initiatives and upcoming employee programs, according to a DeKalb County news release.
Cochran-Johnson introduced several new benefits, including the DeKalb Employee First-Time Homebuyer Program, Elder Care Leave, and an Educational Reimbursement Program.
The event featured a Q&A session moderated by Chief Communications Officer Dionna Smith, where Cochran-Johnson answered employee questions and emphasized the importance of every staff member’s role. She stated in the same release, “You are more than your job title. You are part of a movement. You are part of a family; you are part of a community… everyone matters. This is our family. And in my administration, no one gets left behind.”
The address was also broadcast live on DCTV’s Ustream channel for employees who could not attend in person. Chief Operations Officer Zach Williams encouraged employees to represent their departments and build connections with coworkers.
The county plans to continue involving employees in future updates and initiatives as part of its broader efforts to support staff and improve county services.
