The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for several counties, including Morrow and Mahoning, until 9 AM EDT. As of 4:00 AM, areas like Akron had visibility reduced to 1/16 SM due to the fog. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving in the affected regions.
A stable atmosphere with clear skies was reported this morning, leading to high pressure and temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s. Although the soil is still quite wet, the near surface moisture is expected to facilitate the development of fog, particularly along and south of US30. According to NWS Cleveland, visibility trends will be monitored for potential additional advisories further north.
Elsewhere, the high pressure system is anticipated to provide a mostly sunny Sunday and a dry start to the week. However, changing conditions are forecasted for Monday as a warm front moves northward into the area, bringing muggy conditions and an increased chance for showers and thunderstorms. With instability and moisture on the rise, the NWS issues a marginal risk of severe weather and warns about the potential for heavy rainfall, which could lead to localized flooding concerns.
Looking ahead, a cold front is expected to move east across the area on Monday night, with lingering showers and thunderstorms persisting into Tuesday morning. "Given the stronger support accompanying this frontal passage, cannot rule out a few isolated strong to severe thunderstorms," NWS states, emphasizing concerns of continued heavy downpours. Temperatures will take a more seasonable turn following the front's passage, with highs in the low to mid 80s and dew points in the low 60s.
Marine conditions on Lake Erie are forecast to remain calm initially, with high pressure allowing for light and variable flow and slight wave activity. Anticipate slight changes early in the week as a warm front and subsequent cold front bring about southwesterly and westerly winds, respectively. Boaters should expect waves potentially hitting 2-3 ft, particularly over the eastern half of the lake following the cold front's passage on Tuesday.
