An overturned tractor-trailer hauling blackberries created major disruptions on Interstate 95 in Johnston County. The vehicle, which veered off the road and hit the guard rail near Exit 107, resulted in the driver being charged with DUI, as reported by WRAL. The accident, occurring around 12:30 a.m., led to the closure of the right lane while cleanup and recovery efforts were underway.
According to a statement obtained by CBS17, the State Highway Patrol has been managing the scene, with efforts to divert traffic to the left lane stretching until passing Exit 107. Multiple wreckers were reportedly working to right the heavy trailer which, loaded with fruit, was too cumbersome to tow in its capsized state.
Upon hitting the guard rail and overturning, the trailer necessitated a significant cleanup operation that involved unloading the spilled blackberries. The driver, after being treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital, faced DUI charges for operating the vehicle under impairment. As of early morning, the blackberry-laden tractor-trailer had been dragged back up to the highway surface, details provided by WRAL indicated.
The State Highway Patrol and cleanup crews promptly responding to the overturned vehicles on I-95. Recovery and law enforcement operations have been ongoing from the early hours of the morning, with traffic disruptions expected to clear around noon.
