As of July 1, Dunwoody police officers will see a 4.9% increase in their paychecks. The City Council had approved this mid-year raise back in October 2024 as a part of their steady effort to back law enforcement and amplify public safety. This move not only boosts the morale of existing personnel but also aims to make the force more alluring to potential recruits.
Dunwoody's City Manager, Eric Linton, highlighted the city's stance in a statement obtained by Dunwoody's official news outlet, saying, “Public safety remains the highest priority for Dunwoody’s Mayor and City Council.” Year after year, adding, “that commitment is reflected in our budget. Compensation is a critical piece of the overall package that ensures Dunwoody Police remains competitive in hiring and retaining high-quality officers.”
According to the news release, the adjustment in compensation translates to base salaries ranging from $62,301 to $99,682. The financial package is also attractive due to additional pay for officers with higher education degrees, and a notable $15,000 signing bonus for new hires, spread out over time.
The comprehensive benefits package for Dunwoody Police is robust, including perks such as a take-home vehicle program and a substantial $800/month housing stipend for those choosing to live within city limits. Officers also receive 100% city-paid employee medical and dental coverage starting on the first day they join the force. Furthermore, a highly supportive work environment has led to the City of Dunwoody being named one of the “Best Places to Work” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle this year – a recognition that was surely driven by positive employee feedback.
The suite of benefits does not end here, extending to 90% family medical coverage paid by the city, generous employer retirement contributions up to 21.2%, among other advantages such as 15 paid holidays yearly and $4,000/year in tuition reimbursement. Specialty pay is also a part of the package, rewarding officers in SWAT, CID, K-9, Crime Response Team, and Community Outreach roles with additional compensation.
It's not just the police force that is on the receiving end of these benefits; other city employees will be experiencing a similar 4.9% pay raise.
