An Eagle Lake resident had a brush with calamity this past Sunday when her attempt to park ended in a collision with the local Public Works building. The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office posted on social media that they responded to an incident at 90 LeRay Avenue after a 28-year-old, Nicole Marie Neubert's Chevrolet Trailblazer, unexpectedly plowed into the building.
According to the sheriff's office's report, at around 3:39 p.m., Neubert was trying to park on North Agency Street, which is directly across from the Eagle Lake Public Works; her car began moving forward she inadvertently hit the gas instead of the brake, thus propelling her vehicle into the edifice. Her mishap resulted in substantial impact to the property, but by sheer fortune, the area struck was unoccupied, preventing what could have been a grievous event. Neubert walked away from the accident unscathed, and law enforcement found no evidence of impairment, thus deeming the unfortunate event as purely accidental.
The incident has raised questions about the safety measures in place in high-traffic public areas and the rapid response of local authorities. The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office has not specified any pending charges or citations as the crash is being regarded as unintentional. Damage assessments for the Public Works building are ongoing, and official comments from the city regarding the structural impact of the crash have not been released.
