The Planning Department of East Kaua‘i is extending an open invitation to its residents, encouraging them to join in on the conversation about their community's future. A series of public workshops focused on the East Kaua‘i Community and Circulation Plan will continue through September, offering a platform for community feedback on various critical issues. As part of a broader public engagement strategy, these workshops are integral to shaping long-term planning for land use, infrastructure, and more.
"This planning process is about listening and learning together. We encourage all East Kaua‘i residents to be part of the conversation," Planning Director Ka‘āina Hull said, as mentioned in the Kauai County press release. Focusing on specific priority topics, each workshop promises interactive opportunities for residents to voice their thoughts on issues such as housing, infrastructure, transportation, and economic development, while also emphasizing the importance of climate resilience and cultural preservation.
The upcoming workshops have definitive themes and are scheduled to provide structure to the dialogue. The schedule includes a workshop on Housing and Infrastructure on July 8, and another dedicated to Transportation on August 12, both to be held at the Kalukalu Economic Resilience Center in Kapa‘a. A final workshop covering Parks, Recreation, and Economic Development is slated for September 16, with the location pending. Those who can't make it in person can access workshop materials online, ensuring inclusivity in the planning process.
These upcoming events build on previous engagement efforts, such as last summer's open house and survey, along with a multi-day design workshop held last October. The Planning Department has also promised to provide dinner at each workshop, acknowledging the time and contribution of the attendees. Anyone in need of special accommodations, including ASL interpreters or materials in alternate formats, is encouraged to reach out to the Planning Division well in advance, according to the press release.
For more details on the workshop schedule or to access online materials, residents are directed to visit the project site or contact the Long-Range Planning Division. This initiative is a step towards a collaborative future for East Kaua‘i, hinging on comprehensive input from its community members.
