Just a few weeks past a tense encounter on the streets of Mifflin Township, the narrative of Daveonte Dixon's flight from law enforcement has taken another turn. Eight individuals were arrested on Wednesday, June 18, assisting Dixon in evading capture after a shootout that left two police officers seriously injured. According to a media release from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the collective effort to hinder law enforcement has now resulted in charges of Obstructing Justice.
The events in question unfolded on May 28, when law enforcement approached a car carrying Dixon, triggering a pursuit that ultimately led to a shootout. Dixon, having opened fire on the officers while fleeing, subsequently faced attempted murder charges. While one officer has since been released from the hospital, another remains receiving care for injuries, including wounds to his face and upper body, as indicated by a statement from the sheriff's office.
It took authorities three days to track down Dixon, who was discovered at a residence on Thelma Drive in Obetz. After a SWAT standoff that ensued, Dixon was hospitalized with a serious, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face. His current medical status exists as a juxtaposition to the violence he's alleged to have perpetrated.
The investigation, jointly conducted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, SWAT Deputies, and U.S. Marshals, culminated in the recent arrests. Those now in custody were allegedly complicit in harboring Dixon or otherwise impeding his apprehension. This latest development underscores the lengths to which some will go to obstruct the course of justice—a costly pursuit for all involved.
