El Paso County law enforcement agencies have reported another surge in their ongoing fight against unresolved criminal warrants, with a countywide operation that concluded this week with the arrest of 17 individuals wanted for varied offenses, this marks the second instance in a series of planned initiatives to tackle the backlog of warrants that has troubled the community.
The latest roundup, orchestrated by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, in partnership with Constables from Precincts 1, 3, 4, 6, and 7, spanned across the county and continues to build on a strategy initiated last month aimed to systematically address the high volume of outstanding warrants, the first operation of which led to 21 arrests and now with the second resulting in 17 more, as reported by El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Ugarte praised the joint effort, stating, "Our priority is holding individuals with outstanding warrants accountable," emphasizing the collective commitment he believes critical for the success of the operations and expressing his gratitude towards the Sheriffs Office team as well as the participating Constables, as obtained by the Facebook post from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
The initiative, known as the Joint Warrant Initiative, was launched in May 2025 and has been publicly recognized by Sheriff Ugarte, who has expressed his determination to press forward with these efforts in the upcoming weeks and months, to ensure those with outstanding warrants face justice, a stance that Sheriff Ugarte has repeatedly emphasized, valuing the dedication of his team and the intertwined support of the constables who enable such operations to bear fruit.
