Commuters in Washtenaw County are facing disruptions this week as an emergency bridge closure takes effect over the Huron River. The Maple (Foster) Road bridge, sitting between Huron River Drive and Country Club Road in Ann Arbor Township, was shut down on Monday due to significant structural concerns. The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) stated, "The bridge will remain closed to all traffic until further notice."
The decision to abruptly close the bridge was made following recent findings that highlighted an immediate safety risk. Officials from WCRC acted quickly to ensure public safety, emphasizing that they are now to thoroughly assess the bridge's condition. "WCRC is currently assessing the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available," said a statement on the WCRC website. Aaron Berkholz, Assistant Director of Engineering for WCRC, can be contacted at (734) 327-6648 or [email protected] for further inquiries.
While the bridge is closed, traffic is being diverted, with local authorities advising motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected area. As of now, there has been no indication of how long the bridge will remain out of service.
