California authorities were in motion early today, capturing an incarcerated man who had absconded from a San Diego County reentry program. According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Justin M. Dake, 29, was apprehended without incident at Carlsbad State Beach by California State Park Rangers around 10:30 AM.
Dake, who went missing last Tuesday, was part of the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) in San Diego County. After his capture, he was taken to the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, and he will now face potential escape charges; his case has been referred to the San Diego County District Attorney’s office. Dake had initially been sentenced, for attempted second-degree murder among other charges, he had been received from Orange County on May 10, 2017.
The purpose of the MCRP is to aid offenders nearing the end of their prison terms by preparing them for community reintegration. Eligible male offenders with two years or less remaining on their sentences can voluntarily join the program, which links them to various support services. This can include help for substance use disorders, mental health, medical care, employment, education, housing, and social support necessary for their upcoming transition from custody to community life.
