Soccer enthusiasts and D.C. residents, take note: the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is bringing the excitement of international soccer to Audi Field this weekend, but it's also going to seriously disrupt local traffic. Specifically, on Sunday, as Red Bull Salzburg faces off against Al Hilal, the Metropolitan Police Department has announced substantial street closures and temporary parking restrictions to accommodate the event's influx of fans and associated activities.
Starting from June 8 and extending all the way through June 28, certain streets in Southwest D.C. are to be strictly no-go zones for parked cars and moving traffic alike. According to a traffic advisory issued by the MPDC, First Street SW, from Potomac Avenue SW to T Street SW, and S Street SW, from Half Street SW to First Street SW, are currently posted as Emergency No Parking areas and are fully closed to vehicles.
For those planning to navigate the area on the day of the match, expect even more extensive restrictions. On Sunday, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., T Street SW will also be closed to traffic between First Street SW and 2nd Street SW. The east side of 2nd Street SW, R Street SW, Potomac Avenue SW, and Half Street SW also join the list of no-parking zones during those hours. Given these changes, those living in or visiting the vicinity might want to significantly adjust their travel plans or consider public transportation options.
Organizers are urging both fans and local residents to plan ahead in anticipation of traffic changes surrounding Sunday’s events. Whether attending the international soccer match at Audi Field or simply managing routine weekend plans, travelers should expect delays and allow for extra time. To ensure a smooth trip to the stadium—or to avoid the congestion altogether—the public is encouraged to consult the MPDC official website for the latest updates on street closures and parking restrictions.
