The Latino Cultural Center is adding a splash of color and creativity to your summer routine with a series of free workshops designed for artists and architects, wannabes, and could-bes of all ages. Sonia Medina, known for her engaging teaching style, will lead two workshops exploring the intersections of architecture, memory, identity, and space. According to their latest bulletin, the center promises an immersive experience in discovering the rich tapestry of memories that shape our built environment, as per the City of Dallas.
Up first, on July 12 from 12 to 2 PM, Cuentitos: Architecture and Memory Workshop will help attendees peel back the layers of the buildings and spaces they occupy. Participants will translate personal stories and cultural experiences into architectural drawings, blending elements of their heritage with Americana. It's a hands-on, collage-based affair, with materials provided and no cost to register.
Then, there’s the Mapping: Space and Identity Workshop on July 19. This session will give participants the chance to map out their journeys, marking down not just geographical locations but the emotional landmarks that define their individual stories. These personal artifacts will be a launching pad for discussions on broader American themes, all through the medium of mapping. The center invites folks to share their interpretations and, hopefully, discover new ways to articulate their place in the world.
These workshops break down complex concepts into engaging, actionable sessions designed to fuel the creative energies of Dallas's diverse community. Something is appealing about melding personal narratives with public spaces, and the Latino Cultural Center is clearly on to something by providing a stage for this type of exploration.
