Early Thursday morning, a fire broke out at the Huntington Square Apartments in Northglenn, prompting a swift response from local firefighters and emergency crews. At around 4:31 a.m., North Metro Fire Rescue responded to reports of explosions at the apartment complex, located near East 105th Place and Washington Street. As crews arrived on the scene, they encountered smoke billowing from the building, with pop and boom sounds augmenting the urgency of the situation. According to 9News, these noises were believed to be explosions.
Residents of the complex recounted a harrowing experience, with some attempting to take matters into their own hands. "The person that lives there had came outside, and (a neighbor) went in and he extinguished it," one resident revealed in an interview with KDVR. "I think he saved us honestly because right after that there was another little explosion noise, and then it was just a ton of smoke." The efforts of these residents preluded the arrival of processionals and underscored the community's instinct to rally in the face of adversity.
The fire, which was reportedly contained to one unit, nevertheless led to damage in adjacent units; one directly below the main site was affected, another was damaged by water, and a third suffered smoke damage. In the wake of the chaos, two individuals were injured and taken to the hospital, though their conditions were not immediately released. The cause of the fire is under investigation, with agencies including the Red Cross and ATF assisting, as per information provided by North Metro Fire.
Amid the confusion and alarm, residents pieced together the timeline of the crisis. Jennifer Deaguero, living in the complex, told CBS News Colorado, "I went to the bathroom, and I heard this explosion or whatever. I thought somebody may have hit our building with a car. I opened my door, and I heard a screen and drapes for the window on the front of our door. Blew completely out the window."
