A home in Fairburn has been left in ruins after a second fire in less than 24 hours, leading to complete destruction of the property. The Red Cross stepped in to provide assistance to the family who were displaced by the fire. According to FOX 5, the blazes first erupted on Sunday morning and the home reignited again by today, suffering extensive damage that has rendered it a total loss.
Fire Chief Cornelius Robinson informed firefighters responded to the Autumn Green Drive residence on an early Sunday morning call. Crews were then called back when the flames began anew this morning. After the initial fire, which appears to have started in the kitchen, was put out, the structure was engulfed once more with flames shooting from the roof and back by the time firefighters arrived. After the initial fire which seemed to start in the kitchen, was extinguished, the second blaze has left one of the neighboring homes dealing with heat damage.
While the unfortunate event stands as a testament to the unpredictability of fire, the response of the Red Cross showcases the stability of community support in times of crisis. As indicated by Atlanta News First, no injuries were reported since no family members were present in the home at the time the second fire occurred. They had already relocated to a hotel after the prior incident. The local community alongside firefighters from Union City and Fairburn, worked into the pre-dawn hours to control the flames utilizing a ladder truck for an aerial assault on the fire.
Neighbors captured by the sheer force and return of the fire expressed their shock, with one, Mack Amores, recounting his awakening to firefighters on the road. "This morning when I woke up around 4:30, I saw the fire department on the road. I thought 'Oh my God,'" Amores told Atlanta News First. As he described, "All of a sudden, I saw fire coming out of the roof." The cause of both fires is currently under investigation by fire authorities.
