A serious two-vehicle collision that occurred on June 1 in Oxnard has resulted in one fatality, the Oxnard Police Department confirmed. The incident, which took place at the intersection of Ventura Road and Hill Street at approximately 9:02 p.m., involved a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse and a 2004 Honda Accord. Both drivers required hospitalization due to the severity of their injuries.
The Oxnard Police Department reported that the driver of the Honda Accord, an approximate 28-year-old male whose name has not been disclosed, was transported to Ventura County Medical Center with significant injuries. Despite medical efforts, the unnamed driver tragically succumbed to his injuries on June 2, according to an update from the Oxnard Police Department. The Ventura County Medical Examiners Officer is still working to identify the victim.
The driver of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, identified as 31-year-old Laura Amescua of Oxnard, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center. The initial investigation suggested that the collision occurred after the Honda Accord, traveling east on Hill Street, turned right onto southbound Ventura Road against a red light and was broadsided by the Eclipse, which had the green light.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of alcohol and/or drugs being a contributing factor in the crash, and it remains unclear if excessive speed played a role.
