As per CBS 17, authorities at the scene indicated that the motorcyclist lost control and wrecked while speeding near the intersection of Hay Street and Robeson Street.
During a separate incident in the area, North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers were in pursuit of a dark-colored vehicle on N.C. Highway 87. Amidst their chase, they observed a motorcycle to quickly alongside the vehicle they were chasing, as reported by CBS 17. The troopers ended their pursuit of the vehicle to attend to the resulting crash, which led to the somber discovery that the motorcyclist did not survive.
Further information from WRAL News suggests that at the time, State troopers were chasing another car, which was not directly implicated in the motorcyclist's accident. The identity of the victim and whether the collision was an indirect outcome of the original chase remain to be determined.
Moreover, this fatal accident marks the second such demise of a motorcycle rider since Friday night.
