Yesterday morning, a conflagration in Fern Park escalated when a fire that began in a shed sparked an explosion and spread to two neighboring homes, according to firefighters. The Seminole County Fire Department, with support from the Maitland Fire Department, responded to the blaze near South Lakewood Circle shortly after 11 a.m., working to contain the spread of the flames.
ClickOrlando initially reported the fire to have caused severe damage, although due to quick action by arriving crews, the structural damage was limited to the ends of each house. This intervention, crucial in its swiftness, saw the displacement of both homes' occupants, who must find alternative residences until repairs render their abodes habitable once more.
One firefighter, amidst efforts to douse the flames, was being evaluated for overexertion, with expectations of a full recovery. This detail was shared in a statement by a Seminole County Fire Department spokesperson, which further confirmed that the families are temporarily displaced because of the fire's devastation.
While at the scene, described by the Seminole County Fire Department, an explosion is suspected to have ignited the initial shed fire. Such were the beginnings of an ordeal that rippled to encompass two homes, with the shed between them rendered to ashes, as per a report by WESH. The investigation into the exact cause of the explosive ignition and subsequent fire is ongoing, as units remain on scene for overhaul and inspection by the Florida State Fire Marshal.
