The search for the performers to belt out the national anthem at Atlanta's most celebrated summer running events has reached its final lap. The Atlanta Track Club has narrowed down the hopefuls to five finalists each for the AJC Peachtree Road Race on July 4 and the Chick-fil-A Peachtree Junior on July 3, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Voters now have the power to decide which vocalists will dawn the honor of singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at these events; among the adult category contenders are Rachel Walker, Laura Martin, Tiffany Nimmons, Rachel Norman, and Jon Ingram, while the junior category boasts young talents Violet Bove, Taylor-Brinae Lane, Cadence Tran, Aaliyah Benjamin, and Leigha McBride, each of whom submitted a video of their rendition of the national anthem as part of the track club’s "Oh Say Can You Sing" competition, these finalists were carefully chosen from a plethora of submissions that descended upon the Atlanta Track Club from eager participants seeking the spotlight at one of the city's storied traditions, as per FOX 5 Atlanta.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, public voting for these finalists is ongoing and runs through June 15, offering Atlantans the opportunity to influence who will represent their voices and their city on such patriotic platforms.
Last year's performances set a high bar; the Four Fellers, a local barbershop quartet delivered an a cappella rendition of the anthem, and 10-year-old Dior J. Portis brought his vocal talents to the Peachtree Junior, thus this year’s aspirants are poised to carry forward a legacy of passionate performances that resonate with the heartbeats of bystanders just as fiercely as the runners' feet pounding on the pavement in pursuit of finish line glory.
The winners will be announced on June 16, following the close of the voting period. At the adult singer forefront, the selected individual will have the honor of performing on Independence Day before the race begins while the junior winner will sing the previous day.
