Four suspects have been taken into custody after a series of pharmacy break-ins terrorized Metro Detroit, with a high-flying assist from the Michigan State Police helicopter. Acting as eyes in the sky, the helicopter spotted one of the break-ins in progress last night in Novi, leading to the swift arrest of three individuals inside the pharmacy while a fourth attempted a futile escape, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
As the fourth suspect bolted from the scene in a vehicle, racing towards Detroit's west side, the state police aviation team maintained relentless visual contact, coordinating with ground forces to box the suspect in. Something went wrong—the suspect abandoned the vehicle and tried to continue on foot, but technology and tenacity prevailed, and police, supported by K-9 units, successfully apprehended the runner, ending the night's high-stakes chase.
A statement from the MSP Second District's social media post further details the coordinated efforts that brought the situation to a close. The aerial unit, designated Trooper 2, was part of a multi-jurisdictional force tackling the metro area crime wave. “Our aviation unit continues to assist our partners across the state in getting dangerous suspects out of our communities,” F/Lt. Mike Shaw said in the post found on the MSP Second District page. “They continue to take suspects into custody safely. While pursuits may be necessary at times, it is safer to use all the technology available to take these dangerous criminals off the street as safely as possible,” he added.
