In a recent operation by Galt Police Department, a traffic stop led to the arrest of a 55-year-old Galt man on gun and drug charges. According to a social media post from the police department, officers pulled over Jeffrey Hickingbottom for vehicle code violations at 17:22 hours.

During the traffic stop, officers summoned a K9 unit to perform an "open air sniff," which resulted in K9 Rex positively alerting to the presence of narcotics, as per the Galt Police Department's post. The search following the K9's alert turned up roughly 5.14 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, scales, and several plastic bags suggesting intent to distribute. After being stopped for a vehicle code violation, the man provided officers with verbal consent to search his home and a tent in his backyard.

Inside the tent, law enforcement officials discovered "numerous items of drug paraphernalia and a loaded unregistered firearm." Hickingbottom, identified as the driver and resident, was taken into custody on a litany of firearm and drug-related offenses, the department reported. As confirmed by the Galt Police Department's post, he was then booked at Sacramento County Main Jail and is currently held without eligibility for bail.

The implication of this arrest underscores the ongoing issue of narcotics and illegal firearms within local communities. Galt Police have emphasized their commitment to proactive policing strategies, as evidenced by this arrest, following a simple yet effective traffic stop that led them to a more significant find. They have not released whether Jeffrey Hickingbottom has retained legal representation or when he is expected to face a court hearing.
