The Georgia Republican Party has filed a lawsuit against the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, claiming the board unlawfully rejected two GOP nominees for the county’s Board of Elections. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the lawsuit argues that Jason Frazier and Julie Adams were denied their appointments during a meeting late last month, which the GOP says violates state law requiring bipartisan representation.
Filed late Friday, the lawsuit asks the court to require the appointment of Frazier and Adams and to block any other appointments until the issue is resolved, as reported by 11Alive. Fulton County’s Director of External Affairs, Jessica Corbitt-Dominguez, declined to comment due to the ongoing litigation.
Georgia Republican Party Chairman Josh McKoon criticized the commissioners’ actions, stating they could impact public trust in elections.
Julie Adams, one of the GOP nominees, was previously involved in a legal case where she claimed the right to reject election results she found unreliable. A ruling from Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney clarified that no election board member can refuse or abstain from certifying election results.
The Board of Elections' new term begins July 1. The GOP is seeking a court decision before that date.
