Residents of Germantown and interested parties are set to have their say on new sidewalk and safety improvements planned for the areas surrounding Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, Lake Seneca Elementary School, and Waters Landing Elementary School. In an effort to prioritize the safety and accessibility of walking and biking routes for students, Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is inviting the community to a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m.
The announcement from MCDOT outlines details of the event, which will discuss proposed improvements identified in a comprehensive walkability study. This study has mapped out the strategic addition of sidewalks to various roads, including Teakwood Lane, Wisteria Drive, and several others, aiming to create a safer journey for the young students in question. The public can register for the virtual meeting to view the concept plans and engage with the proposals.
According to the plans currently posted on the MCDOT website, the proposed upgrades will feature sidewalk installations at key sections of roads such as Winterspoon Lane, Waldorf Drive, and Walnutwood Lane. The virtual meeting will provide the residents a platform to understand and discuss the potential impact on the community.
Feedback is crucial for the progression of the project. The community is encouraged to participate not only in the virtual meeting but also to submit their comments and concerns via the project's website or directly through email or phone. All comments will become a public record and carry equal weight, whether they're submitted in writing or expressed orally. The deadline for feedback is set for 6 p.m., Friday, July 25.
MCDOT additionally offers interpreter services for the virtual meeting, accessible upon request given five days' notice. For those interested in learning more about MCDOT's ongoing initiatives, the department maintains a presence on various social media platforms and encourages the public to follow for updates.
