In a show of hometown pride, Gilbert, Arizona celebrated NBA player Jalen Williams by renaming a street in his honor. The guard, who has led an impressive career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, is now immortalized in the town where he began his journey to sporting greatness. Gilbert officials joined forces with Perry High School where Williams previously dominated the court, unveiling “Jalen Williams Way” on Thursday, just in time for Game 1 of the NBA Finals, as detailed by the Town of Gilbert.
Playing for the Perry Pumas, Williams showcased a talent no less extraordinary than what fans witness today on the professional stage, driving the team to the state semifinals and securing All-Conference honors. Now, as he shines in the All-NBA Third Team and the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, Gilbert can't help but beam with pride. With the street renamed, the entire community of Perry High School, standing beside the Gilbert Streets team and Chandler Unified School District, will be rooting for their star as the Finals unfold.
The talent in the Williams family doesn't end with Jalen. Cody Williams, his younger brother and another Perry High alum, made headlines after being picked by the Utah Jazz in the 2024 draft. Watching Jalen, already hailed for his achievements, and Cody rise through the ranks, it's clear that the Williams brothers are a force to be reckoned with in the league.
