GoTriangle plans to update the Wake Forest-Raleigh Express (WRX) schedule in November. The changes aim to offer more frequent service, better access to key areas, and improved connections with local microtransit. Riders are encouraged to share their feedback.
Currently, the WRX bus runs only during peak morning and evening hours between Downtown Wake Forest, Triangle Town Center, and Downtown Raleigh. The proposed update would replace this with hourly weekday service from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., running only between Downtown Wake Forest and Triangle Town Center. New stops on South Main Street/US 1A would connect with local microtransit, providing timed transfers to GoRaleigh’s Route 1 to Downtown Raleigh and Route 25L to North Raleigh.
According to the Town of Wake Forest, the changes are designed to match new commuting trends and improve efficiency. GoTriangle says running the WRX all day instead of just during peak hours will likely attract more riders. The goal is to offer more trips, better connections, and a cost-effective solution that helps people get to schools, stores, medical appointments, and jobs outside the usual 9-to-5 schedule.
The current WRX schedule during rush hours hasn’t attracted many riders. GoTriangle plans to switch to all-day service to better match how people travel now. The change aims to make the bus more useful for trips throughout the day, not just commuting. Shortening the route also helps GoTriangle manage costs while improving access and convenience.
For now, the new WRX schedule is just a proposal, and GoTriangle wants your feedback. Whether you ride the bus often or just care about local transit, now’s the time to share your thoughts before the changes take effect in November.
