Staunton State Park, a prized natural refuge a stone's throw from Denver's urban sprawl, is charting its course for the next decade, and your voice can be a part of the conversation. Colorado Parks and Wildlife has opened the floor to public opinion on the park's first-ever management plan, with a feedback period stretching from June 10 to July 18, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
The plan's draft details are publicly accessible, and stakeholders and visitors are encouraged to thoroughly review the propositions and to ultimately submit their feedback. This input is essential, as it will heavily influence key decisions surrounding land management, recreation, as well as the optimization of both staffing and funding. Your insights can be shared through the EngageCPW platform or by directly emailing [email protected].
For those who desire to gain a deeper understanding of the proposed strategies and to directly engage with park authorities, Staunton will host two public meetings in July. The first, a virtual gathering, will roll out on the first day of the month, requiring pre-registration to attend. An in-person session, slated for July 8, welcomes interested individuals to the Staunton State Park Visitor Center itself, with no digital screen intermediary. Both meetings are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Relatively young by state park standards, having opened its gates in 2013, Staunton's lush landscapes have quickly become an outdoor enthusiast's haven. With activities that span the gamut from rock climbing to serene hikes amongst the Colorado greenery, Staunton's management plan lays the groundwork for maintaining the park's allure. "From rock climbing to mountain biking, horseback riding and bird watching, fishing and hiking, Staunton offers something for everyone," Park Manager Zach Taylor emphasized, as per Colorado Parks and Wildlife. He further added, "This management plan will help guide current and future park staff to ensure we continue to be good stewards and offer a wonderful experience that only Colorado can offer."
