The Henderson Police Department has wrapped up another round of the "Click It or Ticket" campaign, as part of the state's continual push to get motorists to buckle up, a practice shown to save lives. A two-week-long enforcement stretch, sponsored by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, ran from this Thursday until May 26th, focusing on spotting and disciplining seat belt violations, which in Nevada are categorized as secondary offenses.

During the campaign, officers carried out 224 traffic stops, and among these, only two drivers were dinged specifically for seat belts. They had initially been stopped for other traffic violations, suggesting that officers were not able to directly pull over drivers just for not wearing seat belts. The majority of citations were for speeding, with 103 motorists busted, as per a statement on the city's website. Additional offenses recorded included five cases of distracted driving and 44 various other violations.

While such campaigns are routine, the emphasis on compliance reflects a broader effort to bolster road safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that "the national use rate was 91.2% in 2024," a statistic that highlights the perceived value of seat belts as crucial life-saving devices. The use of seat belts is said to reduce the risk of death for drivers and front seat occupants by all of up to 45 percent in the event of a crash.

The Henderson Police Department's efforts were boosted with $179,000 in federal funding, which was facilitated through the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Office of Traffic Safety for the 2025 Joining Forces program. T
