In recent news out of Hernando County, a failure to comply with the stringent procedures set forth for those labeled as sexual predators has resulted in an arrest. Last Wednesday, Tommy Ray Evans found himself in violation of the law for not completing his mandatory 30-day transient registration check-in. Hernando County Sheriff's Office's social media post outlines the details of Evans' offense and subsequent arrest.
Evans, with a birth date of December 13, 1966, was previously adjudicated guilty in 1997 for a sexual battery offense using force and a weapon in Hillsborough County, a conviction that led to him being designated a Sexual Predator by the State of Florida. On the date of the arrest, Detective Marcacci had performed a background check through the FDLE Sexual Offender and Predator System (SOPS), discovering Evans' status as a transient Sexual Predator. His last known registration was on April 22, 2025, which was outdated by the time of the compliance check, leading to his detainment for the reporting violation.
According to the details provided by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Evans was charged with one count: "Failure to Complete 30-Day Transient Registration." Following this, he was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center. Regulations dictate that individuals with Evans’ designation are to submit to regular checks to remain compliant with state law, he, however, did not adhere to these guidelines leading to his current incarceration without bond.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office has also issued a call to action for the community in relation to this case, encouraging individuals with relevant information to reach out to Hernando County Crime Stoppers. Anonymous tips can be conveyed via phone at 1-866-990-TIPS (8477) or submitted online at the Crime Stoppers website, potentially qualifying the informant for a cash reward of up to $5,000.
