Earlier this month, Dontrey Lynch Webster, was taken into custody on charges of failing to adhere to the terms of his sexual offender registration. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office confirmed Webster’s arrest following an infraction for not completing his quarterly reregistration requirement.
Convicted in 2015 for Sexual Battery by a Juvenile on a Victim 12 Years of Age or Older, Webster's conviction requires him to comply with the state's registration mandates. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Sexual Offender and Predator System flagged Webster for this omission earlier in June. Examination of his compliance history highlighted that he last updated his SOPS profile on April 23, falling short of the May deadline.
Upon establishing contact with Webster at his residence last Thursday, Detective Marcacci was informed by the registrant that he had simply forgotten his registration month. This slip has resulted in Webster being held without bond for the time being, as reported by a press release from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. The official document, available here, states Webster's specific charge as "Failure to Complete a Sexual Offender Quarterly Reregistration."
As of now, Webster awaits further proceedings at the Hernando County Detention. Webster's case serves as a point of consideration for both the efficacy of the registry system and the responsibilities shouldered by the individuals within it.
