In a calculated sting operation, Holyoke Police, in collaboration with several other agencies, have arrested two men for alleged sexual crimes against a minor. Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan confirmed the arrests following an initiative aimed at curtailing the demand for child sexual exploitation. As per a social media post by the Holyoke Police Department, an undercover officer posed as a 15-year-old escort to ensnare potential offenders.
The trap was set at a local hotel in Holyoke where individuals contacted the undercover officer, offereing money for sexual favors, unaware that she claimed to be a juvenile. At 6:20 p.m. Thursday, 44-year-old Mohamed Bendrao, thinking he was meeting a child, was apprehended by law enforcement. Following him, at approximately 8 p.m., was 63-year-old Michael Menard, who arrived seeking similar unlawful intents. Both men were arrested.
Facing charges of Sexual Conduct for a Fee with a Child under 18, Enticement of a Child under the Age of 16, and Attempt to Commit a Crime (Attempted Rape of a Child), these individuals are now subject to the legal consequences of their alleged actions. Bendrao, a resident of South Hadley, and Menard, hailing from Chicopee, find themselves entangled within the justice system, as the operation throws a harsh light on the ongoing issues of child exploitation. The arrests signify a victory for agencies relentlessly pursuing the protection of minors from such activities.
The operation, involving the Holyoke Police Department, Massachusetts State Police High Risk Victims Unit, Hampden County SPDU, Massachusetts State Police Gang West, and Massachusetts State Police SAFE Task Force, showcases a focused effort to dismantle networks and discourage crimes targeting children.
