
A homicide investigation is underway in southeast Austin after a man's body was found early Sunday morning. According to KVUE, Austin Police Department (APD) officers arrived on the scene around 12:35 a.m., responding to reports of an unresponsive person at the intersection of Wickersham Lane and East Riverside Drive. After receiving the call, officers found the man by the Apple Mart gas station with significant injuries on his body.
The victim, situated on the ground near South Pleasant Valley Road, was pronounced dead approximately 25 minutes later. Emergency medical services had been deployed and attempted to save the man, who is believed to be Hispanic and in his 20s or 30s. As of yet, neither suspects nor arrests in connection with the crime have been announced by the police. FOX 7 Austin adds that the man was found with obvious trauma behind the building of a gas station that was closed at the time of discovery.
With this incident, the city of Austin confronts its 30th homicide of the year, marking a somber milestone for the community. APD's public information officers emphasize that the investigation is being led by homicide and crime scene detectives.
