
A recent fatal shooting at 2220 Main Street on Wednesday has been slated for grand jury review, according to city officials. The incident occurred around 5:25 p.m., resulting in the death of a 40-year-old man whose identity is still pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The confrontation between two males, which led to the use of gunfire, arose over personal belongings. Witnesses say one man was sitting in the parking lot when another man approached, grabbed his belongings, and pushed him. This encounter escalated, and the first male, aged 20 and unharmed in the incident, retrieved a firearm and shot the older male multiple times. Following the events, HPD Homicide Division Detectives H. Montealegre-Cerrato and G. Rangel arrived on the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation.
As reported by the City of Houston, paramedics declared the victim dead at the scene, situated in a business parking lot. HPD patrol officers initially responded to the shooting call, encountering the critical aftermath. Upon consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, it has been determined that the case warrants further examination by a grand jury to determine if charges will be brought forward.
