
The City of Jackson, Tennessee, is mourning the loss of a veteran police officer, Sergeant Andy Thaddeus Bailey, who was killed in the line of duty following a high-speed chase and a violent confrontation with a robbery suspect. The confrontation began when the suspect snatched a purse at Old Hickory Mall and fired a shot, prompting a police pursuit.
According to the Facebook post by the police department, the suspect aggressively tried to avoid capture by ramming several police vehicles, resulting, eventually crashing into two other vehicles on North Highland Avenue. The suspect, after crashing, engaged in a gunfight with the responding officers, during which Sergeant Bailey was fatally shot. Having served the Jackson Police Department for 31 years, Sergeant Bailey was on the verge of retirement.
The suspect was subsequently shot multiple times by return gunfire from the officers. "The suspect was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison," the post stated.
