As the calendar pages turn, Milwaukee's commitment to improving community health outcomes continues with the opening of registration for the HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes. This event, now in its 10th year, marks the commencement of the 15th Annual Bronzeville Week, scheduled for August 2-9. Runners, walkers, and community supporters are encouraged to sign up and participate in the kick-off event taking place on August 2 in the morning.
The 5K is organized by the National Coalition for Healthy Black Families (NCHBF) and focuses on preventing unhealthy birth outcomes nationwide. Emphasizing physical and mental wellness, the HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run urges families to engage in active lifestyles. As reported by the City of Milwaukee's official announcement, groups of 10 or more receive special registration rates and the chance to win a trophy.
According to the City of Milwaukee Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs extends a personal invitation to Milwaukee residents to play a role in this initiative. "The HaRUNbee Walk/Run has helped to raise awareness of infant mortality, which disproportionally impacts communities of color in Milwaukee," she stated. She further emphasized the importance of community engagement, "By joining the 5K as a runner, walker or general supporter, you can play an important part as we work to reduce infant mortality and to promote better physical and mental health." Alderwoman Coggs also encourages new participants, "If you have not had a chance to participate in the HaRUNbee Walk/Run before, I encourage you to join us in this great cause."
Milwaukee’s HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run offers opportunities for participants to run, walk, or volunteer. The event aims to address health disparities and improve birth outcomes. Those interested can register on the event’s official page. The initiative is part of broader efforts to promote community health during Bronzeville Week.
