Yesterday morning in Lake County, a driver became the victim of an armed robbery under the guise of a law enforcement stop, a concerning scenario described by officials. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is currently piecing together details of the incident that took place along County Road 48 in Yalaha, FOX 35 Orlando reported. The victim, on his route to work around 5 a.m., encountered a white sedan on the roadside that later initiated a stop by flashing what appeared to be police lights, prompting the man to pull over near County Road 48 and Lime Avenue.
The driver of the sedan, who was reportedly a six-foot-tall Black male wearing dark clothes and a ski mask, walked up to the victim's car, pointed a handgun at his head, and demanded his phone and money, according to the victim’s statement to authorities. After complying, the suspect fled toward Leesburg, leaving the man without his phone to seek help at a nearby convenience store, where he reported the robbery to a responding Lake County deputy sheriff, who noted the victim was visibly shaken but unharmed. This account comes from WFTV.
The sheriff's office has since been on the lookout for an early 2000s model white sedan with no distinctive features, but the suspect remains at large. The community has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that may lead to the identification and apprehension of the individual responsible for this alarming crime.
