Lakewood's annual tradition of firework splendor is set to illuminate the night sky this coming Independence Day, as announced on the city's official website. With a scheduled start of approximately 9:45 PM on Friday, July 4, the event is all but guaranteed to draw a crowd eager for the spectacle. Should the weather prove uncooperative, the display has been secured a rain check for Saturday, July 5, according to a statement obtained by Lakewood’s website.
City officials have laid out specific regulations to ensure that the event at Lakewood Park runs safely and smoothly. Visitors should note that parking will be banned post-5 PM in the Lakewood Park Parking Lot on July 4, and vehicles remaining past that time could find themselves towed, as detailed on the website. Furthermore, spots like the Kiwanis Club Pavilion and the Kids’ Cove will be off-limits, as they lie within the designated fireworks discharge area, resting all day in holiday quietude.
Public safety is the priority, with the Lakewood authorities prohibiting personal fireworks, generators, gas grills, and tents within the park's confines. Alcohol, too, remains banned in keeping with the year-round park policy. Drones, pets, and even the seemingly innocent sparklers are among the no-goes for the day, ensuring clear skies and safe grounds for all. As the sun sets and 7 PM approaches, the park’s recreational fixtures such as skate parks and courts also close down, though earlier closures remain a possibility, reaffirmed by the city's online announcement.
The park will be subject to the watchful eyes of the local law enforcement, who may, for reasons related to public safety, conduct searches of any bags and containers brought into the area. To ensure you can celebrate without disruptions, guests are encouraged to heed these rules and help maintain a secure environment for the Fourth of July festivities. "The City of Lakewood appreciates your cooperation in helping to make the Fourth of July festivities safe and successful," reads a line from the City of Lakewood’s website, a sentiment echoed by community leaders and event organizers alike.
