The Las Vegas Aces found their stride, snapping a three-game losing streak with a solid 89-81 win against the Indiana Fever this past Sunday. A’ja Wilson led the charge with 24 points in a performance that just might be the catalyst the Aces need to turn their season around. The reigning MVP was supported by Jackie Young, who put 19 points on the board, and Chelsea Gray finished with 18 points, according to an AP News.
The Fever's Aliyah Boston scored 26 points, of which 18 came in the first half. However, Caitlin Clark, last season’s Rookie of the Year, struggled with her shooting, hitting just 1 out of 10 from beyond the arc. Despite her cold streak from deep over the last two games, she managed 19 points and 11 assists, AP News reported. Kelsey Mitchell added another 20 points for the Fever, though it wasn’t enough to secure victory.
The game saw its fair share of swings, with the score tied at 69-69 in the fourth quarter before Las Vegas took control. According to a recap provided by the Aces' official site, the decisive moment came as the Aces went on a 9-2 run, establishing a lead they would not relinquish. The victory was a much-needed morale booster for the Aces, who, after winning back-to-back WNBA championships two years ago, had lost five of their last six before this matchup.
Notably, Wilson is closing in on a career milestone, sitting just 7 points shy of becoming the 28th WNBA player to reach 5,000 points. This achievement, expected to happen in fewer games than any player before, will also see her join an elite group of players who have amassed 5,000 points, 2,000 rebounds, 500 assists, 400 blocked shots, and 200 steals over their careers, the Aces' official site.
Off the court, Young continued her impressive free-throw streak, going 7 for 7 from the line, while Gray climbed the leaderboards with her career assists. The victory was witnessed by a packed house at T-Mobile Arena with 18,547 fans in attendance, demonstrating the strong hometown support for the Aces. The team will be looking to leverage this win as they approach a back-to-back set against the Connecticut Sun and the Washington Mystics later in the week, as noted by the official site of the Aces' official site.
