A pedestrian, struck and killed on a recent pre-dawn Saturday, became the city’s 73rd traffic fatality of the year. The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Redwood Street and W. Flamingo Road. As detailed in an official statement from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a 2008 Infiniti G35, traveling west on W. Flamingo before turning onto Redwood Street, collided with the male pedestrian lying in the roadway.
Emergency responders quickly transported the anonymous victim to the University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit, but he soon succumbed to his grave injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the Infiniti, 41-year-old Marc Damerell of Las Vegas, stayed behind at the scene. Police have since arrested him, slapping on charges related to driving under the influence. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section has continued to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The driver is now facing DUI-related charges, which will be formally addressed by the legal system. The identity of the pedestrian who died has not yet been released, as officials are still notifying the family. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section. With 73 traffic deaths so far, it's a clear warning for both drivers and pedestrians to be more cautious and aware.
