A harrowing event occurred in a Las Vegas WinCo parking lot as a visitor's 4-month-old Akita puppy named Xero was stolen from a Tesla car. The vehicle, set to "Dog Mode," which is designed to maintain a comfortable climate for pets while informing passersby of the dog's safety, was forcibly entered. This unfortunate theft happened early Tuesday morning, around 3:15 a.m., according to KTNV.

The car's owner, Magdalena Kovacheva, had left the puppy inside the Tesla while she quickly shopped. Upon return, she discovered the car's window smashed and Xero gone. Kovacheva expressed her immediate reaction to KTNV, saying, "The window was bashed in. I just went into complete shock." Despite the purpose of Tesla's Dog Mode, it's possible that the theft was a misguided rescue attempt or a ploy to swiftly make profit off a high-value breed.

Following the incident, Kovacheva was told by the dispatch that the situation wasn't considered an emergency when she called 911. She later filed a police report, but News 3 Las Vegas stated that it could easily take 10 to 15 days before a detective is assigned the case. The unavailability of surveillance footage without a subpoena and a security guard on break during the theft compounded the challenges faced in the immediate aftermath.

Kovacheva, who had recently lost another pet to a wild animal attack, implored for community assistance to locate Xero and told News 3 Las Vegas, "I would just like to reach out to anyone and everyone. Hopefully, you can help me find my puppy, as it means the world to me. It's the cutest, fluffiest, sweetest thing in the world." She also mentioned that the Tesla, being a rental, unfortunately did not capture the incident on its own recording devices.

Community members who may have been present in the grocery store parking lot between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Monday or who have any information regarding the disappearance of the puppy are encouraged to contact Las Vegas Metro Police or reach out to Kovacheva directly at 818-821-4584. The search continues as social media users share images of Xero, with the hope that someone will recognize the stolen puppy and help return him home safely.
