The City of Lewisville is inviting its residents to become part of its centennial celebration by participating in the Centennial Tree Program. This initiative is both a commemoration of the city’s 100 years of incorporation and a step towards a sustainable future. Residents can sponsor a tree for $500, an act that contributes to greening their local parks, provides a tribute to the community’s history, and honors personal milestones or memories.
Announced earlier this week, the program allows individuals, families, and businesses to select from an array of native trees to plant in designated parks and green spaces throughout Lewisville. Each sponsored tree comes with an engraved plaque displaying the donor’s chosen information, an element that lends a personal touch to this public gesture. According to the City of Lewisville’s official announcement, the city will ensure the care and maintenance of these trees for a guarantee period of five years following their plantation.
Those interested in contributing have the option to pick their preferred park from a provided list, or they can trust the city to pick the most suitable planting location for their tree. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department will make the final decision on the exact location within the selected parks, ensuring that both the trees and the surrounding areas benefit from this initiative.
Perhaps what sets this program apart is the lasting legacy it aims to create. Bringing the community together through a living, growing monument speaks to the city's dedication to both its history and its future. As the trees mature, they will stand as a symbol of Lewisville’s continued growth and commitment to an eco-friendly ethos.
