A tragic incident unfolded on Margaret Wallace Road on Monday, as reported by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). A vehicle collision has claimed the life a local septuagenarian, who has been identified as 79-year-old Nina Kalapuch.
At around 3:08 p.m., CMPD officers from the Independence Division, alongside Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC, were called to the 2700 block of Margaret Wallace Road. Here, they discovered a Toyota Camry that had veered off the roadway and collided with a retaining wall, as detailed in a CMPD statement. The driver, Mrs. Kalapuch, was found unconscious and with injuries deemed life-threatening, which later led to her being pronounced dead at the hospital.
The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search teams were on-scene to conduct an investigation and gather evidence. They surmise that the Toyota ran off to the right side of the road before it struck the wall.
Mrs. Kalapuch's family has been notified about her heartbreaking demise. The CMPD is urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward, suggesting that they contact Detective Worthy at (704) 432-2169, extension 4, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
