A recent traffic collision has claimed the life of a pedestrian in Long Beach, with the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) delving into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The accident occurred late in the evening on Friday at the corner of 71st Street and Orange Avenue, as detailed on the Long Beach city website.
The LBPD responded to calls at around 8:57 p.m., arriving at a scene already swarmed by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Fire Department staff. They found the injured pedestrian, a 78-year-old woman, who was swiftly transported to a local hospital. Despite the efforts to save her, the woman did not survive the injuries she sustained. As per a statement obtained by the official city website of Long Beach, her identity has not been released pending notification of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office.
Evidence gathered thus far suggests that a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck, manned by a 38-year-old Long Beach local, was heading north on Orange Avenue and intersected tragically with the pedestrian's path. While the exact location of the pedestrian's crossing, whether at the intersection or mid-block, is still in question, preliminary reports indicate that neither speed, distraction, nor impairment by the driver was a contributing factor in the fatality.
