Ford Motor Co., the Sydell Group, and Hilton are working together to open a new hotel called NoMad Detroit inside Michigan Central Station in the Corktown neighborhood. The hotel will have 180 rooms and 30 suites on the top five floors, which have been unused since the station was built. It will offer dining and wellness amenities and is part of Hilton’s first luxury properties in Michigan. The grand opening is planned for the first half of 2027. Michigan Central Station, which was closed in 1988, reopened in June 2024 after being renovated by Ford. It is now a mixed-use space with events, tours, and tenants including Ford Motor Company. Over 300,000 people have visited since it reopened, according to The Detroit News

Josh Sirefman, CEO of Michigan Central, said, “The interest internationally was amazing," referring to the strong competition among 16 finalists for the hotel operator role, as reported by Detroit Free Press. Sirefman noted that the decision supports Michigan Central’s vision: “It’s about creatives and innovators,” and aims to offer an accessible luxury experience for both Detroit residents and global visitors, as per The Detroit News.

Andrew Zobler, CEO of the Sydell Group, said that NoMad Detroit will reflect the city's history and culture. “NoMad has built a reputation for developing hotels that take inspiration from the history, art, design and culture that make a place unique," he stated, as mentioned by CBS News Detroit. The project includes the reinstallation of the carriage house’s historic clock and plans for destination dining.
