A shooting at a BP gas station at Lamar Avenue and East Parkway South on Tuesday afternoon left a man critically injured, prompting an immediate investigation by the Memphis Police Department. Action News 5 reported that the suspect turned themselves in shortly after the incident.
According to what FOX13 Memphis obtained, the shooting occurred just after 2:30 p.m., and the injured man managed to quickly find help at a nearby fire station on Lamar. Despite the chaotic aftermath, the Memphis Police Department was able to detain an individual connected to the shooting on Livewell Circle, less than a mile from the scene. Traffic was shut down to allow for the investigation, with westbound lanes on Lamar between Park Avenue and S. Parkway initially closed.
The situation escalated when the 22-year-old victim, with a gunshot wound, entered the store asking bystanders to urgently call 911. Following this, two females in a Hyundai transported him to the fire station for assistance. WREG reported that the surveillance video showed the victim had been driving east on Lamar when the shooting occurred.
Evidence indicates the man ran into the gas station for help right after being shot in his car. The Memphis Police Department has stated that "the 22-year-old victim had entered the store with a gunshot wound asking bystanders to call 911 before two females in a Hyundai dropped him off at a nearby fire station around 2:30." He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, all westbound lanes on Lamar between E. Parkway and Park Avenue have since been reopened as MPD continues their investigation into the incident.
