A tragic incident unfolded in Long Beach on Wednesday when a man was killed after being run over by his semi-truck following a collision. The Long Beach Police Department and fire department personnel responded to the scene on the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue at around 6:40 a.m. Unfortunately, despite life-saving measures, they were unable to save the man, reported KTLA.
According to the preliminary investigation, the victim had his vehicle stopped along the curb line before exiting and standing next to the engine compartment. Another semi-truck rear-ended his vehicle, which caused it to suddenly move forward, knocking the man to the ground and resulting in him being run over by his truck. The Long Beach Police Department states the second truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
At this juncture, the police have noted that speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to be involved in the cause of this accident. The identity of the deceased has been withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office. Nevertheless, the loss is keenly felt by the Long Beach community, and the crash has sparked discussions around truck safety and road conditions.
